“Work Begun On New Smelting Plant A complete new States Smelting and Refining Co. plant, to cost 300 to was started today in the 1500 block, Ekda Road. R. Stanley Tam, company president, said the one-floor concrete block building will be 200-by-55 feet in size, and provide four times as much space as the present plant at 615 Victory St. Construction by John Frail contractors is expected to be completed in three months. The complete transfer of operations is expected by early fall, Tarn said, and the present plant will be sold. Front of the new building, with 200 feet 'of space on Elida Road, will be of glass brick, Tam said. The added space was needed to meet increased business demands. The present staff of eight employes will be enlarged also, Tam said. All employes, Frail and the Rev. John V. Nussbaum participated in the groundbreaking ceremonies Tam, who calls God his senior partner, donates 51 per cent of earnings to church and missionary work. The company reclaims silver from photographic film emulsion by means of electrolysis.”
