Company Name: Gila Development Company
Company Location: Tempe, AZ
Company Information - Edited quote from a highly respected collector: Gila Development Company (GDC), established in 1916 out of Tempe Arizona, is known more widely for its copper ore mining, silver of course a byproduct of such. Long since disappeared, these 1970's ingots remain as a reminder of what was once a flourishing mining district, like so many others, that is no longer in operation. [End]
From the Boston Post, 08 October, 1916:
Records of the Gila Development Company's operations in the 1970's still elude researchers, as is the case with so many other small, defunct refiners of this era. An interesting thing to note is that GDC Tempe, AZ ingots have some stamping and mold matches to other Arizona ingots of this time period, including some rare varieties of Yellow Daisy Refining (see below).
Above is a comparison pic showing matching “T-OZ” weight designation stamp and other similarities. The 5.4 oz GDC is also a mold match to one variety of 5oz-class Yellow Daisy. Other font and mold matches exist, and will be shown at a later date.
Known sizes: Typically odd-weight 5oz, 10oz, and 25oz-class ingots
